FAQ
What is an AWS cron expression?
AWS cron expressions are 6-field strings used by EventBridge and CloudWatch to define schedules. They differ from standard Unix cron by including a year field and using '?' for day-of-month or day-of-week.
Why does AWS cron have 6 fields instead of 5?
AWS adds a year field at the end, making it 6 fields: minutes, hours, day-of-month, month, day-of-week, and year. This allows schedules to be limited to specific years.
What does '?' mean in AWS cron?
The '?' character means 'no specific value' and is used in either day-of-month or day-of-week, but not both. It's required by AWS when you specify the other field.
Can I use this for CloudWatch Events or EventBridge?
Yes, this converter works for both CloudWatch Events and EventBridge cron expressions, as they use the same 6-field format.
Is my cron expression stored or shared?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser. Your expressions never leave your device.
